Stiff Neck

They say when the words of revelation
Touch the outer ear of an unbending heart,
It clenches, distraught, and quickly descends
Into willful heedlessness.

Strange.

For when the whispered wisdom of love
Settles into the inner ear of my long bent heart,
I clench, distraught - mind quick to distend
As it beats itself into sightlessness.
